Spring Lake Regional Park
Youngest Daughter, Youngest Grandson and I joined another group and went for a weekend camping trip. Youngest Grandson (11 years) had never camped before so everything was new to him -- sleeping in a tent, singing around a campfire, watching geese fly over in a V-formation and all the other rituals and simple pleasures of life lived outdoors.
Spring Lake Regional Park is plunked down in the center of a small city of 175,000 so we had the best of both worlds. Yesterday we visited the Schultz Museum in Santa Rosa, California (of Peanuts fame) and today we mingled with the handcar regatta folks. But in between urban activities we roasted marshmallows, played games, read and drew.
The group camping area is well maintained with modern conveniences so it was a great first camping experience for my young one. As for me, I could just move outdoors, I love the outdoor life, but I'll savour my nice soft bed tonight instead!
This sketch of yours has ample whimsey and good design--a delight to see and how wonderful the experience..
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch, camping when I was young are some of my best memories.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting - we have a Spring Lake all the way on the East Coast, in NJ. I taught there for 10 years. Loved your blog.
