On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Ready and waiting

This flyer is too large for my scanner but you get the general idea. I'm obsessing about the new, revised Arts and Crafts program for Juvenile Hall and can't wait to learn which housing unit I'll be assigned to. I hope it's an under served area where the kids could truly benefit from some fun recreational (and prosocial) activities. The start date is August 11th.

Steve and I drove up to church in Cloverdale this morning, about an hour from home. Church of the Good Shepherd must surely be among the oldest church buildings in California - redwood interior, small white frame structure with no plumbing. The congregation was quite diverse and welcoming. Demi behaved herself and slept to and from and all during the service. A tired dog is a good dog!

  1. Hi Barbara!

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy following your blog. One of my favorite things to read about is the work you do with the teens at the juvenile hall.

I am so excited for you to start your new program, and I can't wait to read all about it. It brings me such joy to read about this; I truly apprecate you posting about it. Someday I would like to do something like this in my community. There are so many troubled teens out there.

I'm sure its not always easy and/or fun for you, and it seems like such a lot of hard work and time. So, my prayers are with you. I think you are doing such wonderful thing with these kids.

Even if they don't seem to appreciate it right now or realize how important it is, I know that you and this program are planting such positive seeds.

Keep up the great work. Thank you so much, again, for posting about this.

    Sincerely,
    :o)Wendi
