On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Chickens on parade

If you've been around chickens all your life, if you're totally familiar with all their idiosyncrasies, if they hold no fascination to you whatsoever, well, you have my permission to skip this post.

For the rest of you, remember that this is my very first flock and everything a chicken does is of interest.

Take this photo, for example. You've heard of the expression, "When chickens come home to roost....."? Well, this is what my chickens do. The sun goes down and the chickens march. Left, right, left, right, left, right into their little coop.

I don't have to bed them down, I just show up eventually and secure the latch. Like the good little girls they are, they put themselves to bed, they tuck themselves in, they do everything except close their bedroom door.

Now, aren't chickens amazing?
