Beautiful, gorgeous Sunday
Life began in the local donut shop this morning. I didn't actually go in, Steve fetched me a twist and coffee and picked up something for himself. It was his idea, really.
We drove the 80 miles to Ukiah, seeing blossoms all along the wear - cherry, pear and lots of red bud. It's truly spring here in northern California. The hills and mountainsides are bright green and the vineyards are standing neatly with wild calendula or mustard in between the rows.
There's something ironic about savoring donuts on the way to church on the third week of Lent where we sang deeply penitential hymns, but that's the truth of my life today.
Later I walked it off with Brix, only one mile, but at least I walked him that much.
Now that I know I'm going to start park monitoring soon, I want to buy a genuine fieldbook to document my findings. Fake Journal Month is coming up too - April - so working on gridded squares should be just about a perfect combination.
I envy you -- springs is certainly in the air in California. The apple blossom was beautiful and you coffee shop story sure made me long for a twist myself! Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about fake journal month too. You have a great idea using the field book while on park duty. Great sketches,as always!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Sandy and I (both here in the mitten) have to wait a bit before we see blossoms on the trees, but it's nice to know it's on the way! Thanks! nancy
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day! Nicely done sketches to remember it by, too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy those donuts guilt free on Sunday. I didn't know till long after I'd grown up that the Lenten period of 40 days does not include Sundays! Sundays are free days. My family never treated them as such but I found others did.
