On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Doing not much, slowly

I was supposed to depict this brown pelican in watercolor for the online class IMAGINARY TRIPS - this one being a trek to the beach. But at the last minute I panicked and broke out my Prismacolor pencils instead.

We're having a week of springtime before the rain begins again. I pulled weeds this morning and hope to get the front of the house put back together before Friday afternoon, when the first storm is due. It's amazing how things can fall apart when unattended.

Yesterday the temperature reached 70º here, unusual for February even in northern California. The sunshine is so invigorating, makes you want to get outdoors and in motion once more after hibernating all winter.

What a beautiful sketch. Nice choice of colors. The pelican stands out quite nicely against the blue sky.

  2. The colored pencils worked very well for you! We had a day like that yesterday as well. Wasn't it lovely to sit outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your face again!!
