On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Ten goals for 2010

I typically write out a VERY, VERY long list of New Year's resolutions. I did this year too.

But just to keep it simple, I'll name 10 that I'd really like to keep.

I'll be mentioning these throughout the year, I hope, unless one or more bites the dust and I completely give up.

1. Draw and blog almost every day of the year.

2. Read one book each week.

3. Lose ten pounds during the year. Only ten, certainly doable.

4. Walk (or treadmill) 500 miles - that's only a bit more than a mile a day.

5. Improve my Spanish language competency.

6. Continue Square Foot Gardening.

7. Raise chickens. (I'm waiting for the chicken coop to be delivered. It was built locally by the friend of a friend.)

8. Visit my son and daughter-in-law in Honolulu this year.

9. Write something for the snail-box almost every mail day.

10. Declutter both the house and the garage. That alone should keep me busy.

There, that sets my sights for the year. It gives me something to steer by, some direction so I know where I'm going, what I'm aiming for. I could have tripled the list -- and just about did on the list I posted in the back of my 2010 journal.

Wish me luck!

  2. I need to make a list too! First one being to sketch or paint every day, and so far that's been going great! Love your cows!
