On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Out my window

A month or so ago I moved a small table in front of the living room window. It used to belong to Steve's mother when she was quite elderly and lived in an assisted living apartment. She sat at the table when she wanted a simple snack or cup of tea from her little kitchen or when she wanted to write a note or set up her medications for the week.

In my living room it was only slightly weird and out of place.

I loved it! It meant that I could sit alongside the window and feel like I was traveling in a moving train. In this case I was still and the world outside was moving. I could see the dog walkers, the neighborhood kids playing, the occasional passing car and most especially, the birds in the bushes in front of the house.

Today I drew some of the finches I've been watching. They perch in the branches and eat from the feeders I have in the bushes and stuck on the window. This has become one of my favorite little places in my whole house.

  1. fantastic page! Are you still in classes and did you finish that big assignment? I think it was one hundred sketches or something?

  2. Lovely, thoughtful entry and drawing.
