On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Second of 365

I was listening to a Spanish podcast and trying to follow the story line and new vocabulary when Brix jumped up next to me and fell asleep.

All I had was a plain old #2 office pencil, nothing artsy at all, but I drew him anyway before he shifted position.

It's so unusual for me to use graphite that I'm not used to seeing it. Most of what I draw ends up in pen or with a wash of watercolor pencil. But here is the boy, all 6-1/2 years of him, basically a Big Baby who likes to be near his people, a genuine snuggler.

  1. But the results were stunning. Don't drop the graphite too quickly!
