On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Much better now

Here in northern California we're being promised rain all week. Today was rainy, sometimes heavy, and there's lots more to come. That makes me very happy.

Today was a chemotherapy day. I tried to draw some of the nurses as they went about their work, but adding people has always been difficult for me. I've at least lost most of the phobia about it so I can now practice until I get the hang of it.

My paid hours at Juvenile Hall have been cut drastically, but I'm hoping to resurrect some of the volunteer hours by re-opening the arts and crafts program I had developed there for several years. I quit when I got burnt out, about a year ago, and that's when the opportunity came to work with the art instructor. I haven't liked that nearly as much as I anticipated - the kids are the same kids, but the teacher is horrific to work with. Having said that, I'm not totally distressed to be ending that part of the job at the end of the month. And since it was a 12-hour stint, I'll be so very glad to have most of that time for other things ... like learning how to draw people doing what they do.

  1. Your goldfinch is a beauty! Yes, the event in Haiti is beyond terrible. I'm hoping all who are able will donate to one of the NGOs who are there helping. nancy
