On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Hope, in spite of it all

I haven't heard too many comments about the loss of 2009. For most of the world it was one of the bleaker and the push on to 2010 is the only way to go.

Even my outdoor plants got into it. Up until three weeks ago my geraniums were flourishing in the chill and were full, red and luscious. Then came a week of hard freeze and they gave it up, dead overnight. They aren't totally dead - I have hope that the warm weather will revive them and new leaves will sprout. But today, you have to be an optimist like me to really believe that.

Not so with the primroses and the magnolia bush by the front door. The primroses are blossoming with new colors every time I walk by the front sidewalk to grab the mail. They are exceedingly happy. And the magnolia bush? Well, just look at those two little buds so valiantly waiting for spring. They are hopeful, forever, like me.

  1. Great picture. That one belongs framed! The hope of spring every time you look at it.

Happy New Year! For some reason 2010 seems a bigger milestone than 2000. It sounds like a sci-fi date. Hope it brings great things for you.

  2. Your leaves just shine. Love the fact that you have flowers blooming. Makes us realize that spring will move into our area one of these days.

  3. I always enjoy your art and your writing! Keep going! It's 15 degrees here and all in my garden is dead as a doornail. I did find a piece of some silver birch bark at my daughters and I think I may do a scanner art piece with it. Happy New Year!
