On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Falala or not?

I'm ambivalent. Part of me is celebrating the season, wrapping presents and writing Christmas messages while another part knows that a young friend of mine (age 40) is in the hospital fighting for survival.

She and I have been battling Stage 4 cancer for almost the entire decade. I'd say, battling it together, except that I don't know her very well. But we've met - she served me lunch in her home once, several years ago, and as we are both active bloggers I've followed every chemotherapy treatment she's ever had. She, in fact, was the inspiration for my own blogging, now one of my great passions.

So I watch for updates from her husband and I pray for her. This is the season for shorter drawing stints, or so it seems. Grids are great for that. I should grid a few pages ahead in my journal so I can sit down and start drawing the littlest bits instead of something larger that would fill a page.

My little Apple speakers arrived today and they are awesome! They work well with my laptop and allow sounds to flow throughout our home in a new and wonderful way.

I uploaded some new music from iTunes and am finding it a great improvement to my life to have gentle music and holiday songs rather than constant reruns of CNN (sorry, Anderson Cooper) within line of sight.

  1. I am sorry to hear about your friend, my thoughts are with you both.

And I absolutely love your little drawings in the grid, very nice and a great idea too. I sometimes fint large blank pages intimidating, but a grid like that is perfect for a little doodle.

And I am also curious - what speakers did you get? I need new ones for my computer!
