On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Tales of woe

Youngest Daughter was stung by a bee yesterday while she was eating lunch with her group. Today her arm is slightly swollen and itches like crazy.

I did the usual stuff, gave up and called an advice nurse to get the right dosage of Benadryl. So now she's drowsy, but hopefully will feel better tomorrow.

In the meantime, Brix and I got pepper-sprayed at Juvenile Hall this morning. We were in a classroom, watching a video, before the art class was to begin. Suddenly, and I mean suddenly, one boy jumped up and pummeled another kid. Both were directly in front of me.

Staff was on it instantly, pepper spray was out and I just happened to be in the line of fire. Brix was across the room where another boy was playing with him, so he was okay.

That was end of the art program for today. We'll try again tomorrow, on a different housing unit.

Leaving early meant I had time for a quick nap, which I needed, before going to my late afternoon art class. It's hard to believe, but I was there on Tuesday too so the first week of class is already over. One down, 17 to go!
