On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Summer night read

I want to say that Tracy Kidder is one of my favorite authors but the truth is that I have only read HOUSE, which I loved, and now HOME TOWN, which I loved even more.

Northamptom, Massachusetts is a real town, of course, and the characters in the book are real people. Now that we have Google maps and Street View and all sorts of devices, I was able to actually "see" several of the buildings, streets and parks that are described in the book.

Every town is someone's home town. But many of us don't know our surroundings as well as we know Northampton by the time we finish the 349th page. But people are people and the ones we meet in HOME TOWN are the same ones we meet in the community in which we live. Or so it seems at times.
