On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The monsters are coming!

I just signed up for the Art House Coop sketchbook project here. I will be sent a Moleskine cahier which I have the next few months to fill.

A randomly assigned theme was chosen and mine came up: MONSTERS. I'm relieved. It took me about six weeks to decide to participate and the primary reason was that my skills are so weak. But monsters, I can make monsters!

This will be fun. The completed project -- my sketchbook and hundreds of others -- will be on display in several places. As I learn more, I'll tell you more. In the meantime, you might want to click on the website and sign up for yourself.

In the meantime, I have been dealing with my own monsters here at home -- monstrous vet issues. Three black labs - two with ear infections and one with a hot spot. Everyone is suitably medicated for the moment, but this will go on for the next couple weeks.

While I had the dogs at the vet's office I also got sedatives for Brix. Brix, the dude dog, is our household playground bully. He is top dog, no doubt about that, but just try to clip his nails. It's a two or three person deal with growling and threats to bite (he has never, yet).

So I pilled him and it was only a two person deal with success at the end. The vet said I can give him one-half pill more if one whole one wasn't enough. It wasn't. Next time.

Parisse and Demi hold their little paws up so delicately. They just love to play beauty shop!

  1. Hi Barbara,

Your blog is one of my favorite three to read! I have a grand-dog that is a black lab that I just adore so I always love hearing about your dogs.

I signed up for the sketchbook project too. I'm hoping it will really get me sketching more. I really, really want to learn to draw better and you've been such an inspiration to me! The subject for my journal is "From a worm's point of view"!

Thanks for letting us know about the project!

    Take care,
    dot
