On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Six and counting

I am so excited! I found something I can do. I can grow sunflowers.

Last April I planted ONE solitary sunflower seed and look what it's doing now. There are six (I counted) flowers in bloom with too-many-to- count buds almost ready to burst open.

"Next April," I told Steve, "I'm going to plant the whole package, maybe a hundred seeds."

"What would you do with one hundred sunflowers?" he asked.

"I would look at them."

And that's the truth. I would look at them for the sheer joy of seeing one hundred sunflowers in bloom. I can look forward to that every day from now until April. And I will!

This is pure Joy! And something I will pass along to a number of friends. I feel like a Snoopy-dance! just anticipating next spring with you.

  2. It's been a while since I've been by. I love your sentence "I'll look at them". Why do we need more reason than that? My husband complains that all I do is art. My answer was "well, what am I supposed to be doing?" but that wasn't near as positive as yours.
