On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

We've got rain!

Today's walking - 30 minutes on the treadmill and 5 minutes with Demi

Our community and most of northern California is now officially on water rationing. We are trying to reduce our consumption to the legislated 30% less than last year's usage. Fortunately we dug up our front yard during the summer and recovered it with shredded bark so we won't have to water it but we need to find other ways to conserve too.

In the meantime, we woke up to a shower which was followed up by off and on drizzle throughout the day. During our class break, when it wasn't raining, I took Demi for a short walk and about four minutes away it started pouring. So we ran back to class, Demi shook herself all over the classroom and I slunk back onto my stool.

Our class is still working on ellipses. Today Teacher brought in a lamp and decorated it with those same black and white balloons - including a white balloon where the bulb would be -- plus a huge exercise ball. We drew for 2-1/2 hours. It was a challenging activity for a beginner like me but I enjoyed it. While my young classmates are plugged into their iPods I, the oldest in the class, am plugged into my old-fashioned CD/radio player but it works out fine. I have a favorite station that I've listened to for years - San Francisco's classical station, KDFC (streaming worldwide online at www.KDFC.com) - so I'm mellow and relaxed when class is over. Hopefully I'm learning too!

I can see the progress - these balloons are great! you sound as if you are really enjoying your classes.
Glad you have rain - at the moment, we have had more than enough. Still I expect we shall crave a shower in the summer...
