On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Working on my 10,000 hours

It drizzled all day yesterday and today with more rain expected all weekend. That makes me happy....

I'm having a series of "crap art" days, the kind where I suddenly don't remember how to draw anything and nothing I try is turning out anywhere near to my liking. I sort of have a 10 to 1 ratio - 10 lousy drawings to 1 decent one. They say it takes ten thousand hours to become accomplished in anything so I have some time yet to pay my dues.

You'll never figure out what the left-hand image is although it's rather accurately drawn.  It's a plastic massage implement given as a freebie when I was walking through a medical center one day. I use it on the dogs and they love it! It's sort of shaped like a hand -- can you see it now?

The right hand side is another crack at the philodendron leaf that baffled me yesterday. I used ink on it and charcoal for the massage tool. In class we're beginning with charcoal so I need to get in some practice time because I haven't used vine charcoal in several years and wasn't successful the last time I tried. (another long sigh)
