On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Friday night at the dog park

The dog parks are open! There are three within ten minutes of our home but the two best ones tend to be closed during the rainy season. Brix needs a lot more exercise than he's getting. Yesterday I took all three dogs for their usual Thursday morning play date at a friend's house and today I took Brix to my favorite dog park. There were so many dogs there, all breeds and no fighting. I snagged a seat at the picnic table and drew and drew and drew. I learned two things -- prep the page ahead of time (something I didn't do this time) and practice, practice, practice. I'll have to spend the entire spring and summer at the dog park if I want to learn how to draw a recognizable dog in action.

For those of you having love affairs with your Moleskine sketchbooks (aren't we all?), this video by Domingo Martin is a must-see.

  3. Thank you Trudger and Sherrie -- My dog needs the exercise so I expect to spend the next six months (until November and the rainy season) in the dog park, drawing of course! - Barbara
