On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

So I'm tired, OK???

I'm not really cranky, just a tad discouraged. I decided to drop my pastel class last night because 1) I don't usually get home from it until almost 11:00 pm, 2) Every other Tuesday morning I have an early chemotherapy appointment, 3) I don't really enjoy pastels, 4) The rest of the class seems pretty far ahead of me, and 5) If I stay home I can do something on my level - and enjoy it!

So last night I collaged my exhaustion. This morning I did a very quick sketch of my little alarm clock - in ballpoint because my ArtBox is still in the car because I thought I was going to the pastel class - and I couldn't erase, I couldn't get the perspective right, the shading right, anything right, like I was proving to myself I don't really belong in the pastel class and it's a good thing I'm dropping it. But I will keep the watercolor class because it's much slower, lots of folks on my level and it's right here in town on Tuesday afternoons. So cut me some slack!

  1. Great collage page and drawing!

  2. I really find your blog inspiring!Great creative work.

  3. My wife has had a mastectomy, chemo, and rad treatment in the last 15-16 months. I would have just quit a long time ago; but she just keeps marching right along. She's a type A personality; I'm type B. We get along great.I give her miles and miles of slack; so here........take some from me.

I like the inspiration I feel in your blog entries. My wife doesn't blog, so I made one for her through the ordeal. When there's a new entry, for which there have been few lately, I send out a batched email to family and friends. If you would like to see it, click here: http://pamalois.blogspot.com

  4. Well I see you can't click on the link and get anywhere, so just copy and paste it into your address window...

  5. It's always good to know yourself thoroughly enough to know when something can be trimmed from your life. If you don't like pastel, then why take it, especially if the drive home from the class drains you so. I think the sketch of the clock was just a mixture of frustration and being tired. Don't be so hard on yourself, because you know at any other time you can draw that clock just fine. Give yourself some clack. :-) Love the collage!
