Hamish, the highland "coo"
In Scotland, north of Stirling, lives Hamish, the hairy cow. Officially, I guess he's a bull, but everyone refers to him as a hairy cow, or coo. There's a sign posted, "DO NOT GRAB HAMISH BY THE HORNS"- but every now and then someone does, Hamish gets riled and the visitor lets go....fast. I don't what it is that makes Hamish so revered and so loveable, but I admit to being smitten too when I chatted with him a couple summers ago. This morning I tried to draw and watercolor him, then covered him in gouache. I'm going to try again with watercolor because, for some reason, I want to get Hamish right.
LOL, I went to Scotland for a month in 1984, and was enamored with the hairy cows. I have a nice photo of one taken near Ben Nevis, and the main thing I remember is being eaten alive by midges! BTW, thank you for you comments on the Bert Dodson book. Lately I've been doodling and noodling along with you.
ReplyDeleteThat's very cute! I love what you've done with his horns.
ReplyDeleteHomish sounds pretty irresistible to me...I think he pretty cute!
