On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Every Day Matters Challenge #44 - Draw an animal

In my watercolor class last week I started a painting of a seagull. It's fairly large and I wasn't able to finish in class. I decided that today I would practice with the same bird (from a photo) in my 8x5 sketchbook. In class I used watercolors. Here I used watercolor pencils for the gull and watercolor for the background. When I finished, I scrambled for a challenge to chalk it up to -- and wasn't sure if a bird is also considered an animal.

  1. I like this seagull - he's got attitude!! He's got a slightly mischievous look in his eye, as if to say "Wonder what I can get into next?"
Watercolour pencils do grow on you, don't they?
    Nicely done!

I love your spirit & I agree with your semantics regarding the group name; I have done the same on my blog! The gull is GREAT; I think it would look sooo much better if you do the wash (background) before you do the bird next time, that way the bird will really stand out & the background won't look like an afterthought! :) If you find you have trouble painting around the bird area, try masking fluid--it can work wonders! On a more personal note, I strongly believe in the Law of Attraction, been a friend of Abraham-Hicks for years, and I would not talk, write, or even think about any medical diagnoses or negative anything any more than I absolutely HAD to! If you want to diacuss this further, feel free to contact me! I would love it! Jan
