Poppy time
In case you were wondering, it's the green house with swatches of California poppies that self-planted here and there -- by the mailbox and alongside the driveway, especially.
Next year there will be more, the following year even more. California poppies are particularly proliferative, a characteristic I appreciate because all I have to do is .... nothing. Maybe an occasional watering in hot weather, but so far this bunch has taken care of itself. I don't know who voted it the State Flower, but those folks were pure genius, all of them.
We're having particularly delightful weather this week, about eight degrees above normal - mid 70ºs today. Steve added to his geranium collection, his favorite flower (after his first visit to Paris), so our back deck is loaded with shades of red, especially the deeply colored reds. They, too, seem to take care of themselves. I try to keep up with the grooming - snap off anything turning yucky, and then the plants always look loved and cared for.
We need to garden more - just 15 minutes a day would do wonders, that's all it would take.
I love poppies and geraniums! A neighbor across the street has his gravel yard covered in poppies right now and it's beautiful. I don't have a lot of sunny space but I bought a small red flowered geranium today for a patio table.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you didn't sleep all day today. Yay.
California poppies are such magical flowers; how wonderful that you have them right outside your front door! One of my favorite days was spent at the poppy preserve outside Los Angeles....
