On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Getting educated

I've been away from my blog for a few days, but I have a good reason! Yesterday I attended a professional conference to earn some continuing education units -- in Honolulu! Our son and daughter-in-law live here so it was a triple feature -- visiting them, getting in some R&R and attending the conference. I drew my way through the latter.

I can't identify these plants but they sure are cute! They seem to come in white, pink and deep red. Maybe there are other colors, but that's what I've seen so far.

I spent a lot of my down time sitting under this umbrella tree. In fact, that's where I am right now, writing to you!

I wish I could grow hibiscus at home. I asked at a nursery after our last trip here, but the grower was certain it was too cold in northern California. For sure, this year that would have been true because we had several freezing nights, not our typical winter.

But let's just say the hibiscus is one of my favorite bushes anyway.
