On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The mysteries of the universe

I don't know how many llamas live in Sonoma County, but we're noticing more and more.  On his way to Lakeport this morning, Steve saw this one near Cloverdale.  He blessed a camel on St. Francis Day several years ago when someone brought a camel and a dromedary to the church.  I don't think he has blessed a llama.

This is how I know there is a god:

When we arrived at Donner Park on Tuesday, there was the expected set-up of a bear locker for food and open shelving for "kitchen" supplies.  We used both.

On Wednesday morning we had a massive need for more ice so we drove in to Truckee and shopped at Safeway.  Safeway had a Starbucks (thank you) so I had a morning latté and knew I would live to tell the tale.

On Thursday I noticed a little packet of Via, Starbuck's instant coffee, on the shelving at our site.  Strange, I thought, how could I have missed that since the shelves were empty and I was the only one stocking supplies.  These days I attribute every anomaly to age and figured it had been there - left by a previous camper - and I'd overlooked it.  (How could I not see such treasure?)  So I heated hot water and enjoyed a cup of coffee in a comfy camp chair complete with cup holders.  Uum, good.

On Friday morning I was frying potatoes and onions to go with the kids' quesadillas and fresh cherries and when I went to retrieve a spatula I noticed another packet of Via.  Now how did this happen?  It was enough to make my old brain go fuzzy(er), but was the perfect addition to my own breakfast (I don't do hot chocolate) so I was very happy all the way home.

I have no idea where these packets came from, but I gratefully received them both.  Before we left Sonoma I was already missing my Keurig and dreading a spate of regular instant coffee, which never actually happened.  And I don't know why.

  1. I have had experiences like that too. I think God delights in occassionally surprising us with his personal attention. You've been through a lot, maybe He decided to bless you in some small ways to show you His loving care.
