On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The slow lane

Today was one of those quiet days that makes me happy to be old!  You know, when you potter around doing this and that and call it wonderful.

I finished another book this afternoon, Joseph Caldwell's, The Pig Did It.  I seem to be reading more books set in Ireland - and sometimes even written by Irish authors, although I don't think this one was.  It was summer reading at its best - light, funny and a page-turner.  The author was new to me so I don't know if it was typical.

Steve and I strolled around the farmers' market this evening and chatted with the venders.  I chose a wonderful Greek platter for dinner and we sat by the duck pond and watched the tourists.  Old age at its best!

  1. I had heard of this book. The reviews I read weren't very positive so I didn't get it. Maybe I should reconsider.
Maybe easy satisfaction is one of the plusses of getting older. It seems like little kids are easily happy but they need to move on to the next new thing right away. It is nice not to always need to be moving on but to stay and enjoy a bit more like a simple cup of coffee or watching the dogs play.
So does food taste good again then?

  2. It's not great fiction, but once I got into it - it took a while - I really wanted to know how it all turned out. It's a silly book, but I enjoyed it!
