On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

What's that sound?

Tonight was the annual Christmas caroling in Juvenile Hall.  There were 24 of us, enough to raise a glad sound, and the kids were beside themselves.  Many were totally surprised, although some, unfortunately, were there last year too. They were locked in their rooms - in bed - but jumped up and flipped on the lights when they heard us and watched from the windows in their doors.  Some swayed to the music and others had tears in their eyes.  These are minors who probably haven't been sung to as babies and little kids.

Our whole family was present - Steve, me, Youngest Daughter and two dogs, Brix and Demi who are well known to the kids.  We were dressed like traditional carolers with hats and scarves and held electric candles to see our song sheets.  It's part of our tradition to participate and I wouldn't miss it for anything.

  1. I've been so caught up in the business of Christmas that I haven't been around to blog. I love that you and your family got to sing at Juvenile Hall. I know many of these children have never known the love that is supposed to come from their families. Some kids start out with very little chance of succeeding in this world. Thank you for being one of those who care enough for them to do something about it. I hope the new home for your daughter works out - it would be such a blessing to have her so close. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
