On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

We did it!

We made it through another Christmas!  That sounds awful but I bet at least half the nation is saying the same thing.  Is that true worldwide? Some of you who check in from afar can let me know about that.  Do all of you hustle so much just before Christmas that it feels like a victory just to reach Christmas morning?

I think everyone was pleased with their gifts.  I made out like a bandit - which sort of creeped me out because I was afraid folks thought it might be my last Christmas!

Now... on to New Year's resolutions! (Do you typically make any?)

  1. Dear Barbara, it´s SO long ago that I visited your blog and the reason for my one year absence is that the Big C also is an unwanted guest in my family now. Last year, shortly before christmas my beloved Dad got diagnosed with kidney cancer.

When I´ve just read your "We made it through another Christmas!" I was ultimately feeling you and recalled my Father saying exactly the same thing as we celebrated...and also, later, in a silent moment he also said to me "Holy cow, I got the most gifts of all. Hopefully not cause everyone thinks this is going to be my last christmas.."

It just touched me that my Dad is not alone with all those thoughts that seem to automatically come to your mind.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wishing you a 2012 filled with GOOD news.

    Bettina

  2. We DID it... we enjoyed another Christmas... cancer survivors the world over probably feel the same way this time of year. I know I do... I do make resolutions (easy doable ones).. and usually keep them (because they are easy). Happy New Year my friend... let's make it thru next Christmas too... that's a resolution we can make... what say you?

  3. Hi Bettina - Thanks for checking in and telling the story of your Dad. I thought I was being weird about my response to my lovely gifts so it was helpful to know others have felt the same way.

Hello again Elaine - My first two resolutions are easy: 1. get healthy after chemo is done. 2. Grow hair!
