On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Feeling great!

This was the day after first chemo day and I feel amazingly great!

It was a productive day too.  Youngest Daughter (38) is moving to a board-and-care home for disabled adults on Friday afternoon.  There will be two clients and one experienced, grandmotherly care provider - so she's moving from a household of three to a household of three.  Today was paper-signing day, stacks and stacks of officialdom with signers and a witness.

Our family is quite excited about this transition.  It was being planned several months ago, before I was diagnosed and has nothing to do with my illness.  The timing, however coincidental, couldn't be more perfect.  Our daughter will be 20 minutes away, has a job working each morning on a familiar work crew at a favorite pizza place two blocks from her new home, and already has friends.

Steve and I are looking forward to being empty-nesters at last!  Hopefully everything will work out - our earliest impressions have been positive - and it looks like a go.  Staff will visit her every week for three months and then twice a month thereafter.  We can visit any time and bring her home for holidays or weekends or whenever we're all missing each other too much.  Her older sister lives about 30 minutes away in the opposite direction and will also be visiting and occasionally taking her out or home.

So I promised YD that I would help her pack after supper this evening.  We counted out jeans and shirts and jammies and socks and just about finished the task.  Tomorrow we're going through her medications - she takes many - and we'll get those packed as well.

So there!  I'm not even the wee bit sickly and I basically worked all day!

  1. Hope all goes well with your daughters move, sounds like its all planned with military precision and hope you get to make the most of being an empty nester in between your chemo

  2. You sound so cheery and good today! I hope you have many days like this. It must be a bit of a load off your mind to have your daughter getting started in a new home even though it was time anyways. When you go through the sick times it will be nice for you to concentrate on your own health and not have to care for someone else also. Best wishes! Keep up the good cheer!

  3. I hope she doesn't get homesick but a short visit home would probably take care of that.
