On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Bye-bye summertime

This is my last weekend until classes begin on Monday.  It feels like I've been waiting since forever for the new semester which is what happens when you take a summer off.  And I haven't been to a real campus class for a few years.  I feel so sorry for students who have to attend classes, ready or not, while I am chomping at the bit to get started again.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area it is so incredibly cold!  The entire summer has been on the cool side, but now it feels like winter is almost here.  I'm hoping my sunflowers don't get spooked because they are right on the cusp of bursting open and I would be so disappointed to miss that.  Some folks down the street have had sunflowers all month, but I was the last one in town to plant seeds so I'm still waiting for flowers.  They are there, the buds are gigantic, but they haven't popped open.... yet.
