On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Faking it

Yesterday was the start of International Fake Journal Month. It took me forever to come up with a game plan. At the nth hour I decided to work in a square format, watercolor paper, and to paint only birds and botanicals. And since I rarely use gouache, this seems like a good time to incorporate that into the mix as well - it's not my real journal so it doesn't matter, right?  Remember:  Life is short, why live only one?

  3. This was fun to do!

Anna -- Google International Fake Journal Month. Basically you create a journal that is not typical of your usual style. I never use gouache, for example, but for one month I will. I usually add words, this month I won't. I usually just draw anything, this month it's only birds and botanicals. I don't typically add a background, this month I will. Some people take on a different personal but I haven't gone that route.
