On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

In the aftermath

I'm still dealing with the fallout from yesterday's Internet disaster whereby my online address list was highjacked and misused.

Most recipients have ignored it, either not opening the message or refusing to give it credence because they know me well enough to know I didn't send it.  Or maybe it ended up in their spam folders or was never sent because there's a limit to how many messages you can send at once.

Others contacted me out of concern, also knowing that I didn't send it, but thinking I should know about the message so I could deal with the problem. I would do/have done the same for them.

A smaller, third group, has been insulted. These are folks who don't know me well or at all. They seem to think I would actually do such a thing and they're angry that I seemingly took advantage of having their e-mail addresses. This is the group that's upsetting me. I didn't do anything wrong, I would never send out a mass e-mail for anything, certainly nothing prurient. Their anger, although misplaced, hurts.

I no longer have an online address list. Every time I want to send someone a message I now look it up and type it in. I think that will solve the problem. I would like to change my password, but don't have the ancient security information to do that and AOL won't talk to me because it's now a free account (although I paid for it for almost 15 years, until they changed their policy).

I am so very bummed....

  1. This will soon be forgotten, a minor blip on the radar screen of life. It's a hassle but a minor one. Maybe the sun will come out tomorrow and you and the dogs will have a wonderful day to erase the last raw edges of this incident. I hope so.

As for the message, don't worry at all!! As you said, it immediately went into my spam folder. Everyone should know that this kind of incident can happen to anyone using the net . I do think there are so many really important things happening around us at the moment that this will be soon forgotten. So,don't worry too much about this and enjoy your sketching !!

So sorry that you have had to put up with this. You have done all that you can to sort it out and no-one who follows your blog could surely think you would do anything malicious.
Hope you can put it behind you now and enjoy your day. (Perhaps doing more of your delightful drawings...!)

  5. For those who got insulted, I don't wish it on them, but it could happen to them too and then they'll come back and apologize....I hope. I too hate it when people are unjust in their anger, of course you wouldn't send that and for anyone to think you would it unthinkable! Pox on them!
