On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Poor Rosie!

Every afternoon, about 30 minutes before sundown, we open the chicken pen and let the girls free-range. They scramble for anything green or for bugs and worms or whatever it is that makes a chicken's day. A few moments after the sun drops behind the mountains the hens wander back into the pen, walk up the ramp and settle in for a night of roosting in the coop.

Yesterday the routine was the same - with one exception. In a senior moment Steve locked the pen behind him. After the sun set the girls wanted to get themselves back home. They tried. When Steve went out again to lock the coop he found a couple girls inside - they had apparently found some way to squeeze through, most were locked out and squawking about it and Rosie, poor Rosie, had tried to take the high road and had her feet stuck in the netting that covers the pen and is up near a tree. Rosie was unhappy with her situation but she couldn't get untangled.

The story ended well. The hens weren't stranded for long, Steve freed Rosie and the others rushed in as soon as he unhooked the fence surrounding their digs. They immediately ran up the ramp, onto the roost into their coop and settled in for a long, quiet winter night....until it all starts over again tomorrow - hopefully without the chapter on the great lock-out.

  3. I don't think there are coyotes around here, but there is the occasional fox. I don't they come this far into town..... but I do worry about the hawks circling overhead.

  4. I love your zentangle - I've never tried to do one without lines dividing the areas - it looks great that way! So glad the chicks got back safe in their coop!
