On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Warm and cozy

It's a gray, drizzly day here in northern California after a rainy night. I cooked a pot of chili for tonight's supper to warm things up.  Cornbread next...

I'm enjoying this Advent season and have upcoming events in my planner to look forward to.  The one that means the most to me is singing Christmas carols in Juvenile Hall, our local detention center for kids who got in trouble with the law, but that's a way off.  There's also the annual get-together over lunch with our cancer group.  Steve and I are both survivors and it means a lot to us to maintain a connection with members of the community who were really there for us when we were first diagnosed.  On the other hand, each annual luncheon brings the absence of those who were well enough to attend the year before.  We will be celebrating Christmas morning with kids and grandkids and that didn't even need writing into my planner!

The drizzle is turning into something more substantial.  I'm loving the coziness of being indoors...

  1. I can see how the cancer survivor group would be a bittersweet get-together. My husband just had his first CAT scan since his cancerous kidney was removed. They said they got it all at the time so we'll see what the results are. He's worried of course.

Nope, we never need to log in kids and grandkids. It's always good to see them!

  4. Today's and yesterdays paintings are wonderful! Even though the egg doesn't seem like a Christmas sort of item, I think you've made a simple, cute, Christmas card. Love both of them!
