Doorway to history

Are you as surprised as I am that I didn't draw yet another Demi picture? Actually I did, but first I focused on the heavy wooden door on the facing wall. I was attending a meeting with fellow docents at the historic barracks in Sonoma, California where General Vallejo maintained his troops.

The ostensible threat at the time was the Russians headquartered at Fort Ross on the coast about two hours north. The Russians always claimed that their only purpose in the area was the fur trade, particularly the sea otters in the Pacific Ocean in those parts. But you never know, was the thinking, so Vallejo, a young Mexican commandant (when California was under the Mexican flag) was sent from the Presidio in San Francisco to keep watch over potential danger. And now, aproximately 180 years later, más o menos, I get to sit in an upstairs room and think about these things.

Now, where is Demi?
