Afternoon in the park
Now that I'm a volunteer monitor of one of our local parks, I'm there more days than not walking as many of the 85 acres as possible. I always take a dog, and since I have three black labradors, it's easy to find at least one waiting by the door when I reach for a leash.
Yesterday was Demi's turn. We walked for most of two hours minus the time I took to sit on a tree stump to draw her. The rest of the time I noted new tagging, she went swimming and sniffing and we both listened to the many birds. We missed all the squirrels -- it was either the wrong time of day for them or they saw a dog and scampered up trees and out of sight.
The front section of the park was busy enough - about 45 people in the playground, in the skateboard park, going to and from the Boys and Girls Club, on the tennis courts - but the back portion, the larger two-thirds which runs along two sides of Sonoma Creek, was desolate. An occasional jogger raced by, but I only counted three others besides us.
This was my idea of a wonderful afternoon. Peace. Quiet. The natural world, with a creek yet.
Beautiful post, Barbara - and that photo is hilarious! That´s one happy dog! :)
