On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

A do-over

I re-drew the starfish from yesterday but this time I used Prismacolor pencils instead of watercolor crayons.

I'm starting to like pencils and am sort of surprised since my earlier attempts didn't go well.

  1. What a good idea to explore and compare different media. And, doing the same drawing in different media seems like it would really give you a good sense of how they perform. nancy

Barbara - You are doing so well with the pencils. I like your watercolor version of the star fish too.

I like both your starfish pages - just got Prismacolors myself, and find them very different to handle. Stick to it - you've got a really solid start here!

This is a great idea to compare media by doing a similar piece over and over. I've used the Prismacolors since art school and love them. I'm working on a new technique with them that you might like. I picked up the book Masterful Color by Arlene Steinberg and in it she explains that by using light pressure and making small circles, the color goes onto the paper more consistent and evenly. I love your starfish pieces, the are wonderful.
