On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Storm a-comin'

Sometime tonight, between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., a new storm is gonna break across northern California. Yay! I love the rain and we've had far too little already this season.

In the meantime, I'm still following the magnolia bush that lives by my front door, this time with a plain old number two office pencil. Protected by an overhang the bush gets very little rain and I never water it. But it thrives, develops new buds each season and stunning pink flowers when it is in full bloom. Then poof! It's done. So I've learned to enjoy the time leading up to the flowering as much as the flowering itself.

I bought four more primroses this afternoon. I was in a funk so it was a minor stint of retail therapy (given that I spent less than $4, that's minor.) I'll plant them in a window box so I can look out onto something colorful. First I'll watch the rain, then I'll draw the primroses, then I'll plant them. Big plans ahead!

  2. A woman's got to have plans! Lol. Very nice pencil drawing. You'll be drawing those primroses soon enough.
