End of January
Youngest Daughter and I returned from our weekend in the snow, in this case, Tahoe City, California with a side trip shopping in Truckee.
The snow was quite deep and flurries were falling while we were there, all of which gave us great joy because we don't have that sort of weather in Wine Country.
I had some down time during the evenings. I spotted a fireplace where we were staying with a mantle display of the largest pinecones I've ever seen. I chose one long skinny one to practice on.
I didn't bring many books with me, but I did have one by Claudia Nice on pen and ink sketching, favorite drawing media of mine (PAINTING NATURE in PEN and INK with WATERCOLOR).
I copied some of her examples to get a feel for her line quality and way of shading and shaping her objects. It will take me months of practice, but it's a start. I'd like to work my way through her book with the hope that I will improve, what else?
I love the coloring on your cone! And the drawings of the rabbit and cherries are very good, I think.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are wonderful. I'm with Dan - the coloring on the cone is superb. I love to work with pen and ink, and your little drawings are really nice. Well done! nancy
ReplyDeleteBarbara - Good work on the pine cone! I love the colors too.
ReplyDeleteYes, the colors on the pine cone are awesome. I love that you used your time to practice on great sketches.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous pinecone! Lovely ink sketches too.
ReplyDeleteI have her book too and it's good. I remember doing lots of ink drawings using her book as my inspiration and "teacher". Your drawings are great - doesn't look like you need a lot of practice to me :-) I especially like the pine cone in...watercolor is it?
