On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Drawing hawks

The boys were perusing my sketchbook again this morning. If there was anything in it not for public view it surely wouldn't be in that particular book. But the kids act as though they are privy to all my personal thoughts and notions.

Alas for them! The only page I added this morning was this drawing (watercolor crayon) of a red-shouldered hawk, my personal favorite bird. Hawks sit regally, puffed out, as though they are in charge of all they can see. That's what I like, birds with attitude.

  1. Don't you just love the hawks? I live near Hawk Mtn. in PA and to hear the stories of how the birds were shot by the thousands here not so long ago is frightful. I saw a redtail in the backyard the other day, I love their call. In the summer, though, a Copper's Hawk makes its home here. Boy, are the babies noisey! Glad a fellow artist loves these birds as much as I do. Happy New Year!
