On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Feeling grateful

Forgive me, but I was drawing in church again. I can focus so much better if I do and fidget if I don't.

This was the first time I tried to overlap the figures and was surprised by how easy it is. Now I'm wondering if I can start overlapping in other drawings too - overlapped dogs, for example, and landscapes with branches that bump into each other. Some day I would like to be at the "intermediate" level.

Steve baked a shepherd's pie for supper tonight. It was truly awesome. I know I have it good - home cooked meals that I rarely prepare for myself.

  1. Many would say that if you are sketching live you are at the intermediate level. It's always very challenging, and I think you did a fine job with this one. (But did you hear the sermon?) Nice when we can feel the growth from drawing to drawing, isn't it?

  2. I definitely agree that sketching live puts you in the intermediate level. Well done!

  3. I like the sketch, definitely 'intermediate'! People are overlapping very convincingly.
I think that your idea to draw in church is excellent! I might give it a try too (or Chinese variation: sketching in Buddhist temple).

  4. Good job! I will always try not to 'see' the levels of a person's skill in art, but rather seeing what he/she is trying to tell and represent instead. I find that if I do that, I will be touched easily by their work, like how yours did too ^^
