On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

My chicken period

I seem to be going through a chicken stage. I'm hoping to have a small coop before long and then start caring for three or four of various kinds. I want the fresh eggs for my breakfast.

In the meantime, I'm content with drawing them from photo references. I'm thoroughly enjoying sketching with a crow dip pen, something new that I'm learning from class.

Our weather suddenly shifted into high-gear-warm today and will be hotter yet throughout the weekend. My little garden crops are breaking through the soil, a new one each day. Tomorrow I hope to plant 16 square feet of corn to augment the six square feet already visible. I haven't grown corn since I was 12 years old - and that year I grew popcorn!

  2. Chickens are also one of my favorite things to draw (although I hardly ever post them. You've done a great job capturing their expressions.
