Weekend: Day One
I'm determined to have a better vegetable garden this year. I took the first step this morning and mowed the back yard, weeds and all.
There's this one little section stuck behind the house that nobody sees or cares about. The weeds were about two feet tall! It didn't take long, about 45 minutes, and now it is ready for Step Two, if I can figure out what that might be.
I had some major shopping errands to run after work yesterday and didn't get home until about 10:00 p.m. That didn't leave much time for drawing so I limited it to a quick sketch of Brix, already asleep.
This is spring break from school so I don't feel quite so pressured to learn how to draw. I haven't used real watercolors for so long I can hardly remember how to mix them. I tried a favorite exercise from Dory Kanter's book, ART ESCAPES, but it didn't turn out as I had hoped. So... I'm on Step Two with my garden but back to Step One with paint!
I think the pear looks great! Are you going to do this week's EDM challenge?!!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to hearing how the veggie garden goes - I am doing much the same. Still too cold here for planting outside but have some seeds started in pots indoors.
Can you tell me about the pear piece--it looks so interesting--is it about what the different background colors do to the subject? I like the doggie sketch too. winna
ReplyDeleteI really like these. I love the colors your chose for the pear.
ReplyDeleteI think they're both great! I really like the pear. Keep at it, I love seeing your work!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone!
ReplyDeleteWinna - The pear exercise came from Dory Kanter's book, ART ESCAPES. She has you copy the pear, then mix the colors - your choice - from a triad (permanent rose, a yellow, and a blue - I forget which ones and I had to use substitutes). Outline everything in black. Her project didn't have the taped off separations but there were black lines to make the windowpane effect. Hope this helps.
In cse you might wonder---I did make a note to myself to check your blog later in the day to see if you had a reply---thanks a lot! Winna
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool exercise and it looks like you've done an excellent job at executing it?
ReplyDeleteWill you use the window technique again?
I'm certainly tempted to try it after seeing this. It's a shame that you say you feel a little disappointed with how it turned out - challenge the inner critic!!
