On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Skinny like this!

Today is Sunday, March 1st, which seems like as good a day as any to restart counting calories and get back on track. One of my many New Year's resolutions was to lose weight, but somehow that one got lost in the shuffle.

I chose the praying mantis as my drawing subject because I have a strange cropping assignment due on Tuesday. We are to make a drawing that is so tightly cropped that it isn't obvious what it really is.

Because I draw so many botanicals I decided to draw some portion of this mantis. Everyone in class will assume it's a stem or plant of some sort but no! it will be an insect limb, or part thereof. That's the plan. In the meantime, I just drew the entire "bug" for today. With my Crayola crayons no less!

  1. Very cool mantis! Last fall I was visiting a local cemetery (pretty trees and hills), and I looked down and realized a mantis was walking across my hand. It was mystical! Good luck with your plan to lose that winter bulk - I'm feeling pudgy too.
