Lose a few
I'm not pleased with this set of dog sketches but I'm being faithful to the rigor of drawing every day, no matter what. I used to enjoy drawing Beulie, the yellow labrador retriever we raised for Canine Companions for Independence. (See http://beautifulbeulie.blogspot.com if you want to know her story.) But I'm finding black dogs much more difficult and I don't know why. (sigh)
Your sketches of your dogs are wonderful !!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ginny. And, animals are really hard to draw.
ReplyDeleteYour dog sketches are wonderful! Do not be so hard on yourself. it is the Shadows defeating your Graphite. Think of some erasures.

They are difficult because they are all black. I've tried taking photos of my black dog and it's hard to get a good photo because of all the black. On a light dog their eyes show up along with shadows so it's easy to see their shape and expression but a dark dog with dark eyes and dark (are they even there) shadows it is very difficult.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement and suggestions. I am so glad I am in a semester-long drawing class so I can get some help when we cover some of the topics that I find difficult.
