On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Almost spring

Today was bright and sunny. There was no new assignment in class today other than to keep drawing. Since I had turned in all the assignments on time, I used the time to work in my sketchbook.

There are fields of bright yellow wild mustard, especially around the vineyards. Patches of wild calendula are everywhere, even in our own neighborhood. Wild radish, like this one, grow in lavender, pink, white and an occasional yellow. Trees are blossoming as well - flowering quince, pears, acacia and others. Spring is in the air!

  1. I've been lurking on your blog for quite a while now. Your drawings have improved SO MUCH over time and it is SO inspiring to me to try harder! The darker lines on this drawing, are they ink or pencil or something else? Keep it up--you are an inspiration.

  2. This is lovely. Adding your Zentangle/doodle design to the corner of the page is a nice addition.
