On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Vestiges of winter

Today's walking - 15 minutes with Steve, Brix, Demi and Parisse

We just returned from a short night time walk around the block - three black dogs in the black of night. I need to find the little sparkle lights I used to attach to their collars so the world would know they're there. But it was 74ºF today and it felt like summertime, warm and balmy, and it would have been a crime not to enjoy an evening stroll.

Before that I drew this little pine cone. It's on the same page as yesterday's ribbon and just as complicated. Pine cones, I discovered, have lots of facets on each little blade, or petal, or whatever those protuberances are called. They're thick at the front edge and taper off toward the center. Now I know.

  3. I love how this looks like how you discribe it---that makes it a very successful drawing!

Your pine cone has a wondeful tactile quality - all, pine-coney thick. Can smell the woods (love that smell). Good job!

  6. You had the same observations about the complexity as I did! I tried to draw one last year, thinking it would be easy, but was I wrong. Each piece is complex, without a straight line anywhere. It's tough.
