Rocks and pebbles

I stacked up several "Mexican pebbles," as they call them, and thought this would be a cinchy little sketch to pull off in moments.

Not so! I worked for quite a while, erasing every other line, and struggling with both the perspective and the shadows. The right hand side is sort of okay but I don't know how to correct the stack on the left. I can't wait for my new art class to begin; it's not until the 22nd. (long sigh)

Today was good. The dogs went for their weekly play date - a total of seven dogs, all friends (yes, dogs definitely have friends) -- while we mommies of canines sat around and visited.

This group has been in place for five years so we know each other well. It started with three dogs, then a fourth was born, then Brix was old enough to be the fifth, then another and another. Eventually the oldest dog died, another entered advanced training to become an assistance dog, etc., etc. It's been an ongoing saga full of potluck suppers in the summer, visiting puppies and interspersed with our human dramas as well. It's on my list of My Five Best Decisions that I got a dog!

I finished the day with a group of kids at Juvenile Hall. They were exceptionally cooperative and responsive today -- the kind of behavior that would allow them to keep their freedom if they would only act like that in the outside world!

BTW, since I was speaking of rocks, did you know that Rocky Road ice cream was invented and named during the Great Depression? I just love bits of trivia like that!
