Old news, new year
Every year I make the same resolution -- to read 50 books. One year, back in the '90s, I shocked myself and got up to 65, goal completed and surpassed. Usually, however, I hover around 30. This year was an all time low, only 17, I believe. That's unsettling. I have noticed that the more I draw, the less I read. Not good -- I want both!
So I'm happy to say I'm on schedule so far in 2009, I haven't wrecked it yet. Last night I finished Natalie Goldberg's LIVING COLOR, a lovely book about the author's efforts to paint and what she learned about herself along the way. I had actually read this book a few years ago, but that was before I was learning how to paint too. This rereading was much more exciting for me because I understood every single word.
Barbara, I had to chuckle when I read this post because I could have written the exact same thing regarding Natalie's book. I, too, read it a few years ago before learning to paint, and I literally just finished re-reading it last week!!! You are so right about getting more from it the second time around. It is a very inspirational book which I would encourage any artist to read.
