On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The joy of a new year

Today's walk -- 2.5 miles with Steve, Brix, Demi and Parisse

I'm thrilled to be alive this New Year's Day! 2009 has been a great year so far and I haven't done anything to muck it up. I have ten resolutions laid out before me, one of which is to add a page to my new sketchbook every day. Because my totem animal is the turtle, I am beginning the year and the book with a new drawing of a turtle I sketched last week from a photo reference (no turtles walking around this bleary cold day).

Tradition calls for a dinner with pork and blackeyed peas for good luck through the year so we're feasting on pork chops tonight.
