On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Another practice page

Dark, low clouds have been sitting almost on the streets, it seems, but there's been no rain so far today. A little storm is headed this way for tomorrow.

Several years ago, when I was studying Amish life and culture, Steve gave me this little faceless doll, carrying her basket of fruit. I tried to render her in charcoal for today's sketchbook drawing. I'm becoming a bit more comfortable with charcoal now but it's still something of a novelty.

I'm refilling one of the bird feeders almost every other day now. Both the house finches and one determined scrub-jay work on it incessantly throughout the day. I never knew a dinner of black sunflower seeds could be so tasty!

    Hi Barbara,

Charcoal is fun! Enjoy. You asked me what size my drawings were for the Trudger project. Including the border, they are 9 x 9.5cm. The border is 1cm thick. The paper is not always the same, but most often I'm using a tear-away pad of paper made by Sennelier called "Le Maxi" (the 15 x 15cm size). You can see a snapshot of it on my "about" page on my blog.
